Questions for Darren Hayes?

Arjanwrites_darrenq

I'm speaking with pop crooner Darren Hayes on Monday evening about Savage Garden's new Greatest Hits album and his upcoming solo projects. If you have any questions for Darren email me or leave a comment. Should I ask him about this or is that too gossipy and not relevant? In the meantime, I'm trying to make it out of NYC before this blizzard hits tonight.

Update: I spoke with Darren last night for over an hour. We both enjoyed the conversation and we found out that we have an identical taste in music. He was very candid about his music, future and personal life. I will be sharing more soon in a separate post. Thanks for sending me your questions. Darren was excited to hear so many people responded from all over the world.

no, don't ask him about his private life. it's tired.
do ask him about his music. will he be venturing further into more experimental pop/electronica or is he sticking to writing for other artists? i do think the type of sound he was going for with his last album was a step in the right direction. it may not be as big a hitmaking machine, but it's got to be more artistically satisfying.

Ask him what we can expect from his upcoming UK tour. I'm going and would love to know!

Great you're getting to interview him Monday! Good luck with it. Ask him if he has any "estimate" on when he may do a show or two in the USA for me if you can.
Hugs,
Dawn

Posted by: sean at Feb 12, 2006 2:19:12 AM

ask him if he can give us any idea when this year he will be touring australia and if he will be coming to perth?

Posted by: jodestar at Feb 12, 2006 4:03:06 AM

No, you don't need to ask him that as it's not all relevant to his fantastic music, Darren won't answer it anyway as he's better than that ;-)

I would like to know how many songs are finished for the new album and when he thinks it will come out now that he's decided to tour until July (which I can't wait for!)

Hi.

Don't ask about his personal life.Darren is a private guy-he gets enough of people trying to pry in his life.

I don't think there's anything wrong with personal life questions at all, first, he is a big boy and can say 'no comment' to whatever question he likes, second, and I feel it is very important, if we refer to this linked article, the whole 'no private life questions' thing suggests that gay rumours is something wrong to even ask about - well it isn't. It gives a very inadequate message that there might be something wrong with even a rumour about somebody being homosexual. That's just not right approach!

Hi Arjan

Please ask him about his synthpop roots... I think I read in Keyboard Magazine years ago that they were synthpop fans and that they intented to make an electropop album but the label was more intererested in a guitar-based pop album (a-la Roxette if you want). Is this true? Does he regret not having established himself as an electropop artist?

I'd be interested to know what type of music Darren is most "into" at the moment (as far as what he enjoys listening to on his ipod, which artists, which songs etc), and will his next album reflect that influence?

Posted by: CindyG at Feb 12, 2006 1:08:55 PM

Is there any song or statement that you would dream to include into your album but feel it's too personal for words?

Posted by: at Feb 12, 2006 2:52:56 PM

Thats funny.DO ASK him about his personal life.its funny how he avoids to answer.
Im not telling my name for fear of being judged or whatever.
Im sure u'll do a great interview Arjan.Make it more extraordinary.
To everyone else- arent u tired of reading about his music? Blah

I think there is a mature way to ask about the guys' ability to appeal to gay audiences. While some of us may suspect more that just a passing interest - it's for Darren to decide what to say or not.

The questions have been asked before: http://www.darrenhayesfans.com/articles/axmuk1104.html He has stated about a million times in interviews, since the very start, that he wants his private life/sexuality to remain 'ambiguous' to the public, he doesn't want to spell everything out, he doesn't care if people speculate. Spelling it out is boring. Ask him if you want, but is there any point? We already know the answer he's going to give.
He's mentioned that he's going to be working with producer Mark Endert for the next record, who's done stuff with Gavin DeGraw and Maroon 5. Ask him if his new stuff is going to be more guitar based - and if he says yes, scream a little bit and tell him that he should hook up with Jacques Lu Cont and continue pushing the pop/electronica direction.
Good luck :)

Oh God. That's so cheesy. Big deal if the guy was on a train with his boyfriend. Don't you think it's a little homophobic trying to 'out' someone who has never been 'in'?
Boring! He'll beel cool as a cucumber no matter what you ask him. Just make it INTERESTING!

Posted by: electroshock at Feb 12, 2006 9:36:34 PM

yes, DO NOT ask him about his personal life. ask him if theres ANY CHANCE of a tour or ANYTHING promo wise for The United States of America. we kinda feel left out in this country. :(

Posted by: Dazzy at Feb 13, 2006 1:17:18 AM

Should ask him about his love life, will be interesting to know, if he writes his amazing love songs about men or women.

Also could ask if he will be getting married again soon, if he isn't already as he has been seen recently wearing a wedding ring

Posted by: at Feb 13, 2006 3:43:28 AM

Ask him if he's going to tour Eastern Europe as well.and tell him that he have many fans in Bulgaria that will be extremely happy if he come here someday:)

Posted by: Nicky at Feb 13, 2006 3:49:17 AM

Yes,ask him if he's going' to tour Eastern Europe, because he has many fans in Romania that would be SO HAPPY to see&hear him singin' live. Also tell him that, without exagerating,I(as well as many people) think that he's the most wonderful person alive, that he lights up our lives&that he should NEVER feel again alone&worthless, like he did when he was going thru that "dark" period that inspired him to write "The Tension & The spark" because it's so untrue. He's a river of love, joy&purity, our soul's Bible.LOVE DARREN FOREVER!Also tell him that we,his fans, are so happy that he finally found someone&he's happy. We wish him all the best.Should we expect a wedding anytime soon? Thanks very much!Take care!Bye!

Ask him about what it's like now writing with other people besides Daniel Jones and how he feels writing
music on his own.
