José González "Hand On Your Heart" (Kylie Cover)
Darren Hayes told me this week that the cover of Kylie Minogue's "Hand On Your Heart" by Swedish singer/songwriter José González is one of his favorite tracks of the moment. González is currently enjoying success in Europe with his new single "Heartbeats" that was used in a Sony commercial. The crooner's gorgeous rendition of the 1989 Kylie classic appears on his EP "Stay In The Shade" that was released stateside last month.
Born and raised in Gotenburg, Sweden, González combines hooky Scandinavian pop melodies with warm Latin influences like flamenco, bossanova and Brazilian tropicalia. His version of Kylie's "Heart On Your Heart" sounds nothing like the original but is a superb interpretation that is a must have for Kylie fans. Fab rendition! Shows (once again) that the most trivial pop tune can sound heartfelt and deep once you throw away the klicka-klacka-poppy-glue-in-your-ear
