Cover to Cover

Arjanwrites_malmond

Now that we're on the topic of Soft Cell and Marc Almond... BAM points out an interesting similarity between Morrissey's new album cover for "Ringleader Of The Tormentors" and the cover art of Marc Almond's 2002 "Tenement Symphony." Surely this is a coincidence. I'm confident Moz has plenty of creativity to come up with dozens of new album covers, but the resemblance is striking.

Perhaps it's a tribute? A nodding, winking one?

good morning arjan....
tenement symphony is brilliant.....perhaps a nod.....yet i imagine one could find similar poses on classical composition packaging as well. was there a remix re-release, as tenement was released more than 10 years ago, no?

The covers are a take off on a series of classical cds/albums from a certain label. I used to work at a record store and I remember knowing that Marc Almond's design was inspired by the classical labels covers. Sorry i can;t remember, but I don't really listen to classical or paid attention.

Both CDs are reminiscent of countless covers from Deutsche Gramophon (the Classical label mentioned above) who use a yellow box in their design.

Resident Classical music geek here ;)
