Rosanne Cash is the daughter of the legendary Johnny Cash and his first wife Vivian Liberto Cash Destin. Cash has been making music since the late seventies when she built a solid career as a country singer with more than twenty top 40 country singles. After a polyp shutdown her vocal chords in the nineties, Cash came back strong in 2003 with the critically-acclaimed "Rules Of Travel."

Capital Records will release Cash' new album "Black Cadillac" on January 24. I listened to an advance copy earlier this week. On the record, the singer shares some of her very personal grieving after the passing of her father, her mother and her stepmother June Carter Cash between spring 2003 and spring 2005. The album's rootsy, rock-infused country songs are an attempt to come to grips with her loss. In the album liner notes, she confides that her "loss was a door to appreciation." The title song refers to the black Cadillacs her father used to drive. She poignantly sings, "You were always rolling/But those wheels burnt up your life."

What I appreciate most about Rosanne Cash' music is that it is so heartfelt and so real that you can feel it. In a music scene where mediocrity rules, Rosanne Cash maintains her authenticity to convey emotions that we can all relate to. The intensely personal "Black Cadillac" will easily rank as one of the best releases of 2006.

Listen to her new tracks "I Was Watching You" and "House On The Lake" that both describe memories of her youth and her father. The house on the lake refers to the Cash home in Hendersonville, TN.
