Free Download: The Hourly Radio "Deaf Ears"

Enter the brave new world of pop rockers The Hourly Radio. Named after a newspaper in Huxley's 1932 novel A Brave New World, this foursome recently released their EP "Lure Of The Underground" on iTunes. I was impressed when I saw The Hourly Radio perform as a support act for Stellastarr* a few weeks ago.

The band's propulsive guitar riffs, tight basslines and the soaring vocals by (yummie!) lead singer Aaron Closson gave me an appetite for more. And how can you not appreciate a handsome straight rocker who knows how to belt out a nice falsetto? That's hot.

Based in Dallas, Texas, these cowboys sound nothing like country. In the vein of popular British emo bands, The Hourly Radio invokes memories of Coldplay, The Cure and even some early U2. In fact, Closson has admitted that The Verve has been a huge inspiration to him.

The entire band share songwriting credits on this latest EP. Mostly known in the Dallas area, the band is gaining early notoriety among major talent scouts beyond the Texas border, including Future Management who managed the Killers.

My favorite track on "Lure Of The Underground" is the peppy "Lost+Found." Exclusively featured on Arjan Writes is the unpublished track "Deaf Ears." Hopefully on a radio near you soon (and if it is a ClearChannel station probably every hour). But get it now while you can.
