Grammy 2005 Wrap Up

Melissa Etheride's emotional comeback

Ray Charles was the big winner at last night's Grammy Awards. Among eight awards, the legendary singer received the music industry's highest honors for his record "Genius Loves Company" and his collaboration with Norah Jones on "Here We Go Again." The Grammy telecast itself was a long and dull show that was hosted by an uninspiring Queen Latifah. Here's a short wrap-up in case you missed the show:

The Good: Melissa Etheride returned to the stage after her battle with cancer with an incredible moving performance in a Janis Joplin tribute set. Jamie Foxx' impressed duetting with Alicia Keys (the boy can sing). A thank you to U2 for not performing "Vertigo." It is nice to hear to hear them play something else. Lastly, Green Day's Billie Joe and Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos were sporting some fierce eyeliner.

The Bad: Kanye West got snubbed a couple of awards (including "Best New Artist" that went to the one-hit wonders of Maroon 5). Gay faves Kylie Minogue and Scissor Sisters could not compete with Britney Spears' "Toxic" that received "Best Dance" recording.

The Ugly: Taken straight from a soap opera set, the duet between Jennifer Lopez and Marc Antony could not have been any more cheesy. Also, Lopez should consider using backing tracks next time (Ashlee-style). She hardly could keep a tune. Now we know why she hasn't been touring.

i couldn't agree more. first the ama's; now the grammys... kanye was totally robbed when he lost the best new artist grammy to maroon5! don't get me wrong. am a fan of maroon5 myself, but i thought the nomination itself was already the grammy for them. this year's grammy is by the far the least inspired. i just hope the better year-end releases i.e u2 and gwen would make a clean sweep next year (although i have a distintive premonition they won't)
