I think Manda & The Marbles is one of the first noteworthy bands to emerge in 2005. Based in New York City, the trio cranks out some infectious power pop on their upcoming second album "Angels With Dirty Faces." Manda and her pals lend from '80s and '90s girl groups like The Go-Go's and The Bangles with clever lyrics, fierce vocal choruses and buzzing guitar riffs

In a savvy grassroots marketing effort, Addison Records will push out Manda & The Marbles' new CD to hundreds of podcasters to promote its February 22 release. Read more about podcasting in one of my previous posts.

Musically, the album is a progression from the group's debut "More Seduction." Also, Manda's lyricism has evolved. "[The album] offers a more honest reflection of who I am as a songwriter than any other record I've done," says Manda in a press release. "Songs such as 'Simple Things' which is about struggling with your dreams and failing to attain them. While 'Seventeen' is reminiscing about the past-missing it -and about realizing how difficult life might seem at one point in your life, but when you look back on it, you find that your memories are really fond ones."
