The Killers' Brandon Flowers
"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," must have been the thought
of singer Brandon Flowers when he wrote the lyrics for The Killers'
debut "Hot Fuss." The Las Vegas pop-rock outfit has been the topic of
much speculation as a result of Flowers' ambiguous, gay-themed lyrics.
The handsome crooner gives subtle hints about his sexuality on the songs "Andy You're A
Star" and "Somebody Told Me," but still leaves a wide margin for different interpretations.
"Andy, You're A Star" supposedly describes Flowers' crush on a football athlete in high school. But it is "Somebody Told Me" that has left most people wondering. Flowers sings, "Well somebody told me/You had a boyfriend/Who looks like a girlfriend/That I had in February of last year/It's not confidential I've got potential." Opinions about the song's meaning on fan boards range from Flowers' ex-girlfriend getting a sex change to the singer's desire to have a three-way with his ex-girlfriend and her new girlfriend.

All rumors aside, let's agree that Brandon Flowers is well in touch with his sensitive side. I believe the song is essentially about how rumors can easily spiral out of control. Flowers finds out through the grapevine that his ex-girlfriend is now dating another woman. He is probably not gay, but at least he is having an open mind about it. I really enjoy the Josh Harris remix of "Somebody Told Me." It reminds me of a vintage Duran Duran track. (I also hear a bit of Blur's "Girls & Boys" in the lyrics.) One of my favorite dance mixes of 2004.

i <3 Brandon, and I dont think he's gay. But if he is, why does it matter? I'm still going to respect him as a person and a singer. I think he is brilliant and amazing.

I don't Brandon is gay at all. I have to agree with Tinamarie on this one that he is brilliant and amazing. Just because he writes one song about that doesn't make him gay. Ohh one more thing he is marrying a woman. i think we need more sensitive guys in our society and I wanna give Brandon a big hug. <3 u Muahh!!

Well I dont know about Brandon but Billie Joe From Green Day is bisexual he admitted it in The "Advocate" in 1995 you should check it out. He even have a song called "Coming Clean" it's all about his sexual confusion and stuff like that. Billie is hot!

Dude, for sure Brandon is gay, I talked to his bands managers assistant and he told me that he has gone wild on tours. I also gave my headshot to the manager and got the word back that Brandon wants me in his dressing room before and after shows for their next tour.

He had sex with a man on SNL? That's the only sure way to act gay. Maybe you mean he was acting effeminate, and that acting effiminate is commonly associated with being gay.
As far as your advice to calm down... I agree. Posts saying things like "so what if he's gay, I STILL like him" are unwittingly condemning homosexuals UNLESS they have some other qualities that somehow MAKE UP for it.
For what it's worth, marrying a woman doesn't rule out homosexuality -- I've personally known male homosexuals who married women. Hey, I'm married to a woman. What if I'm gay and don't know it? Maybe next time I'm on SNL someone can clear up my sexuality for me.
I'm not saying he's gay, bisexual, heterosexual, transexual, asexual, or anything else. I'm saying that the various nuggets of information being discussed here aren't conclusive evidence of this artist's sexuality. If we had complete information, we may find that he's not even sure himself, or that his sexuality has changed over time.
People here (with the exception of the brilliant Steven Berkovitch who clearly has his facts together) who are making claims about Brandie's sexuality are projecting the sexuality they WANT him to have. (I don't see a lot of women saying "well yeah, he's obviously gay, and he's SO HOT!")
Ambiguous sexuality with plausible deniability on the alternative fronts is probably part of a formula for celebrity success. Sex sells. Expand your market. Prince and a few other artists have managed to use androgy to approach universal sex appeal, but that's much harder, and not everyone can pull it off (so to speak).
Mr. Flower is benefitting from the public's desire to see what they want (and I'm not saying he's doing a bad thing -- his true sexuality really doesn't affect the general public), and it's illustrated amusingly well in these posts.
