Jamie Scott Releases Debut Single

The UK music charts have a penchant for introducing new singers who combine wholesome good looks with hooky pop tunes. After Westlife, Natasha Bedingfield and all those others crooners, Jamie Scott is the UK's newest chart babe with his debut single "Just." The 21-year old Londoner is marketed as "Britain's most promising soul singer," but in reality Scott makes infectious pop music that will most likely appeal to teenage girls (and boys).

Nonetheless, his voice is remarkable and it is hard to ignore the freshness of his sound. Unlike many other pop tarts, Scott started making music early on. He first played the guitar and piano at the age of seven. Influenced by singer/songwriters Simon & Garfunkel, he continued making music in high school.

His big break came when he hooked up with Tobey Smith who previously produced Jamiroquai. Performances with American R&B singers Mario Winans and Ginuwine soon followed.

Scott likes to emphasize his love for songwriting as a way for him to make sense of life and relationships. The lyrics for "Just" were inspired by a poem by the mystic writer, Kahil Gibran. "On one level it could simply be about people not understanding you. But it's also about those times when things are not going your way and asking why God isn't there with you - and then finding that he is," the singer says on his web site.
