Finally dance music is getting the respect it deserves. The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences has added the category for Best Electronic/Dance Album to the upcoming 47th Annual Grammy Awards to reflect the growing popularity of the genre.

To mark this special occasion, the New York Chapter of the Academy & BPM Magazine host a special party at Manhattan's Crobar (530 West 28th Street, between 10th & 11th Ave) on September 21 during the annual Billboard Dance Music Conference (Click to view invite).

Paul Van Dyk, BT, Sasha, Ken Jordan of The Crystal Method and others will spin their tunes during the event.

DJs Sasha, Jason Bentley, Carmen Rizzo and Victor Calderone will also participate as panelists during the Billboard Dance Music Summit to speak about the importance of the Grammys for the dance music community.

In related news, on November 16, Global Underground will release a special edition of Sasha's latest CD "Involver" which includes the initial version of the album along with a bonus retrospective collection of his remixes from the last 12 years including works by Eat Static, Gus Gus, BT, The Chemical Brothers and more.

Electronica has always been an outsider thing - an underground thing. Now that it's being officially recognized by the Academy, does that make it non counter-culture?
